Travel Insurance

Always make certain that you have insurance cover as soon as you book your holiday or flight. If you do not have an annual travel insurance policy you can take out cover just for the dates of your holiday at any point prior to the holiday taking place. The Post Office Travel Insurance includes cover fro Covid.

Taking out cover straight away ensures that should anything unexpected happen that is covered by the insurance policy  you can make a claim . Travel insurance policies vary enormously ALWAYS read the small print

Brexit and how it affects your travel

Passport You will now need at least three months validity left on your passport when travelling to an EU country and probably 6 months for further afield. Be especially careful if you renewed your passport early last time you renewed as this does not include the extra time on your passport between the actual renewal date and the date it was due for renewal. Follow this link, click on the country you are travelling to and then click on Entry Requirements http://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)  which gave free, or reduced rate, healthcare when visiting the EU has been replaced with the UK Global Healthcare Insurance Card (GHIC).

This is free of charge, visit nhs.uk.ghic to obtain yours. You can continue to use your old EHIC until it expires. Neither of these cards covers Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. Do not forget to take out additional travel insurance as these cards do not cover all costs should you become sick or injured when in an EU country.
Remember that the GHIC is not an alternative to travel insurance. It will not cover any private medical healthcare or costs, such being flown back to the UK, or lost or stolen property.

Updates - flight delays

My flight has been delayed. Can I get compensation?

Check the Citizens advice website for detailed information by following this link

https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/holiday-cancellations-and-compensation/if-your-flights-delayed-or-cancelled/

Also read the following

Airlines don't have to pay out for delays caused by snow because weather is classified as an "extraordinary circumstance" – though some airlines may issue a refund at their discretion. For those of you flying to India you are almost certainly on a non EU airline so contact them direct to see exactly what you are entitled to.

According to Which magazine you can challenge your airline if you don't agree there were extraordinary circumstances – for example, if you are told you can't fly due to the snow, but other flights are departing. "Airlines may stretch the definition of extraordinary circumstances further than they should."

Which Magazine  states:-

If the delay is not caused by extraordinary circumstances you will be entitled to compensation under EU rules, but only if you are flying with an airline based in the EU or with a non-EU-based airline flying from an EU airport, and only if the delay is for two hours or more. If you are flying somewhere else or with a non-EU-based airline not flying from the EU you'll have to check that carrier's terms and conditions.

If you are delayed for two hours or more you are entitled to: two free phone calls, faxes or e-mails; free food and drinks; and free hotel accommodation if you need to stay overnight.

If your flight arrives at its destination three hours or more late you will receive compensation of between €250 and €600, depending on how far your flight takes you. So you'll get €250 if your three hour-delayed flight travels 1,500km or less (ie, London to Amsterdam), but €600 if your plane is delayed by four hours or more and travels at least 3,500km (ie, London to Sydney).

My flight has been cancelled. Will I get my money back?

If your flight is cancelled you should be offered either a refund or an alternative flight to your original destination.

For compensation you will have to look to the EU rules again, though if the delay is caused by snow – and thus an extraordinary circumstance – you might not get anything. If you are covered by EU regulations you will be entitled to travel assistance (such as help with rebooking for a later date) as well as meals and accommodation etc. Check the official EU website for more on your rights.

One of the many attractions of the centre is its breathtaking views. With mountains on three sides, the centre rests beside an open valley with a grand vista of both Lake Viñuela and the Mediterranean Sea. Perfect for walking, the local scenery is stunning.

Sunbathing takes place by the oval, salt water, swimming pool, with its mosaic lining. Lay on the sun-beds with a book and look down through the olive groves to the lake below you and, far in the distance, glimpse the glittering sea, on a clear day you can see Africa.

Breakfast and dinner are included. A raw food lunch is also provided with the exception of Wednesday which is the excursion day, or the change-over day. Food here is delicious

Hot Springs, trips to the beach, and other excursions can all be provided by your hosts.

The Source of Light was especially  designed for yoga retreats and therefore lends itself beautifully to all activities that require a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. Spectacular natural beauty and perfect Feng-Shui combine to create a superb location where one can truly experience living in harmony with nature.

There are four main areas used for yoga: the new 70 sq metre yoga studio with infrared heating , the central open Moroccan style patio, the yoga platform and the newly extended area around the swimming pool.

Morning yoga usually takes place on the yoga platform on the the hill behind the centre. Surrounded by olive and almond trees, and shaded from the morning sun, the scent of the trees and plants will make these sessions even more special.

The central patio is the heart of the property with its relaxing water feature and beautiful natural terracotta tiles. A perfect location for calm meditation or evening yoga practice.

There is also the option of using the yoga studio or the newly extended 48 square metre wooden platform beside the swimming pool - the options are ours to decide.

This venue is an especially lovely venue for those of you who like a room to yourself as rooms single rooms have no extra costs involved.
Rooms are inspired by a mixture of traditional Andalucían architecture and materials, and ancient Arabic patterns and decorations.

The venue comprises of a main building and three small houses designed, on different levels, around an open central patio with a traditional Moorish sunken fountain.

Guest rooms are separate from the core building, creating the perfect environment for absolute comfort and relaxation.  Each guest enjoys en-suite accommodation.  There are nine guest rooms, all rooms are single with en-suite bathroom and terrace and all are equipped with a desk with a salt crystal lamp. The décor is rustic with a touch of ethnic.  Each room is south facing with a small patio outside giving magnificent views down the valley to the sea.

The Lake room is the heart of the core building and has a stunning view over Lake Viñuela and the Mediterranean Sea. The Lake room is used for meal times and also as an indoor area for yoga or any other group activities. In winter the room is heated with under-floor heating and a fire place.

In a corner there is our juice bar that also serves the usual bar drinks and coffee. Just outside the Lake room there is a large terrace where one can enjoy food outdoors or simply relax taking in the view.

Centre of Light is a vegetarian centre, food is lovingly prepared using only fresh, seasonal and and wherever possible locally grown ingredients. Most vegetables are purchased directly from a neighbouring farmer in order to get the freshest produce and support the local economy.

All food is prepared using olive oil that comes from Periana (4 Km from us) and no other fats so commonly used in restaurants. They try to limit the use of dairy products and wheat in dishes and instead have these foods as separate options and are very lucky to be supplied with Chloe's delicious organic eggs.

Food at the centre is normally light and fresh and always includes a raw dish and is accompanied by lots of fresh fruit while dinner is a more substantial affair and always has a pudding at the end!  Menus are carefully devised offering not only a balance of nutrients but an eclectic mix of raw, vegan, traditional Italian and Spanish cuisine.

Includes - Accommodation, yoga, full board - except for one dinner on the chef's night off, this evening will be reserved for a trip to a local restaurant where you can buy a typical Spanish meal.

Not Included - Flights, transfers, insurance, typical Spanish meal in restaurant mid-week.

Flights - Malaga airport - Call Jilly or Debbie in the office, we can help find flights and advise of flights arrival times of other participants.

Transfers

By Taxi The retreat is about 50km from Malaga. The journey takes approximately one hour by taxi. The cost of the taxi is 85 euros per journey. For larger groups we have a minibus which takes up to eight.  We will try to link people arriving at similar times so they may share the taxi cost. Arrive early in the day if you want this option.

Please note: there have been a few confused customers thinking they were paying 85 for 6/7 people. So the minimum charge is 85 whether there is one or 3 persons, and a maximum charge of 200, ie 25 each for a full cab of 8.

By Bus -Buses depart from Malaga bus station to Periana, times are 12.15 and 18.15.  To get to the bus station from the airport you need to get the Cercanais train (10 min) to the train station (bus station is right next door to the train station). Times from airport to Malaga Maria Zambrano are 03 and 33 minutes past the hour.

By Car - Car hire is available at the airport. Please contact us in the office for directions to the venue.

Just got back from a wonderful holiday with LornaChapman. Loved loved loved the yoga, Lorna created a warm friendly and nurturing environment. A wonderful varied practice that kept me challenged in a positive way. The venue, source of light, is in a beautiful setting and the food is also amazing, made with love. Thank you Lorna

Hi Debbie, just a few hours back  from a blissful week at Punto de Luz. It really was a great retreat, amazing food, lovely people and good yoga, not to mention fantastic weather. Thank you

Kind regards, Cheryl - August 2017

Hi Debbie, I came back from the spirit of light yoga holiday on Saturday and had a wonderful time. The villa is very cute and the calm and quiet environment is so relaxing. Richard and Betty were lovely. Being a veggie I really enjoyed Richards food and had a few treatments while I was there which were gorgeous!  Our yoga teacher - Lorna was fantastic. She has obviously been doing and teaching yoga for a number of years and it showed. She was great at offering alternative postures if you were unable to do anything as well as offering more advanced positions for more experienced members of the class! She has a lovely way of teaching and made my first yoga holiday very enjoyable. I definitely hope to do more in the future. Many thanks

Hi Free Spirit! Just wanted to let you know that I had a great holiday at Source of Light with Emma Conally-Barklem. I think I've been going on holidays with you for the last 13 years or so and this was one of the best. Emma is a great teacher - knowledgeable, authentic and teaches from the heart.
Betty and Richard were very welcoming - the food and treatments were amazing. I will likely go back next year also.

Thanks for organising another great trip. Best wishes
Helen September 2016 Emma Conally-Barklem

Hi Debbie   Just to say that our week at Source of Light was excellent. The food, accommodation, and weather were top notch: and the standard of Yoga teaching with Ginny Haswell was absolutely superb.

Tony and Jan - July 2016

Dear Free Spririt, I am just back from the retreat with Jane Manze at Source of Light. Just wanted to say that it exceeded all my expectations, I really, really enjoyed it. I am an experienced yogi and a teacher as well and I have seen a lot but these people, Jane, Richard, Betty, they were all so genuinely kind, they really cared to make things nice, comfortable, to make us feel welcome and safe.
Will definitely travel with you again.
With warmth, and thanks,
Pernille

I have just experienced one of the best weeks that I have ever had.
I have been on yoga retreats before but this one was entirely different, it was a retreat in every sense of the word rather than a holiday. The food was delicious - fresh, imaginative and healthy; with at least one raw food dish daily. So yummy, I miss the food already! Care and love went into every dish and any allergies/intolerances were catered for
Thanks again to all of you that helped make my week so special. I very much hope that I will see all of these shiny, happy people again.

Hi Jilly, I would just like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. Richard and Betty are great hosts. The food was outstanding. The yoga/pilates/chi kung combination was great - 1.5hr sessions swept by and Kathryn style of teaching was perfect for the setting - she gave options for people at all levels. I also have to add that I thought the holiday was good value.
Best wishes,
Kathy Wiggan

Hi Debbie
I have just returned home from Source of Light and just wanted to let you know how fabulous it was. The place was beautiful and Richard and Betty so welcoming.
Richard's cooking was amazing. I have never eaten so well as a vegetarian.
But the real treat was Kathryn's yoga. She was great. Her "yoga flow" has left me feeling stronger, more stretched and generally healthier. I would not be able to recommend her strongly enough. I just hope that at some point in the future I can attend her classes again.
Do please pass my thanks on to her.

Hi there,
just wanted to say thanks for a great week in Spain last week (Kathryn Banks). I loved the combination of yoga and pilates and tai chi - I wish more people did that. I have had some back problems which mean I need to be careful with some forward and back bends. Kathryn was always able to offer alternatives and I just did what I could. Nice group of people and I liked that it was not "her" group. I expect that could also be fine but it was nice that no one already knew each other, so we were all in the same boat. Wonderful wonderful centre and I will definitely be looking to go back there. Great food and such a lovely location and nice people.I walked every day except one, had some treatments and although it is quite remote, it doesn't feel isolated or boring. I can't speak highly enough of the food - really imaginative and tasty and good value I I look forward to going back, hopefully next year, perhaps with some friends. Thanks again, and for fitting me in at quite short notice.

Hi Jilly
I just had to let you know what a fantastic week I have experienced at "Source of Light " in Spain. My first ever solo Yoga holiday! It felt like an exciting adventure was beginning. And it was...The location was stunning and the accommodation was great. Betty and Richard were lovely, welcoming hosts and the food was AMAZING! The group of women I shared the holiday with were fabulous. We all got along really well and enjoyed spending time together. We have already been in touch with each other within a day or two of returning! The yoga was wonderful and Kathryn was a lovely, inspiring teacher. Yoga for joy it certainly was! This holiday is one that I would highly recommend and I would definitely go back.
Thanks a million!
Best wishes, love and light,
Helen Johnson

Hi
We've just had a wonderful week of sunshine, fabulous food and inspiring yoga at Source of Light, Malaga, Spain. I felt at home immediately, there wasn't a settling-in period. Richard and Betty have created a welcoming haven, and the little extras they provide make a world of difference, large beach towels for around the pool, hand wash and shower gel in every room. Even though they have therapies on site, they kindly went out of their way to book a massage for me from a local therapist! The food was inventive, healthy and colourful and always had oohs and arrhs from around the dinner table. Our yoga sessions with lovely Jane were outstanding, and even though there was always the opportunity to do just as much as you were comfortable with, you always wanted to make progress and try that bit harder. Hope to be able to book again with Free Spirit.
